Kevin Balktick

Kevin Balktick is the founder + director of Horizons, one of the world's longest-running psychedelic media, education, and community institutions.


He convened the first Horizons conference in 2007 in New York City out of a desire to change the public narrative around psychedelics and strengthen its community, and has guided the organization’s growth over the last 14 years.


In addition to his work in Horizons, Kevin has been a prolific producer and creative director of arts and culture projects in New York City.

His work has been featured in The New York Times, National Public Radio, The New Yorker, The Washington Post Magazine, Vogue, WWD, Vice, Hospitality Design, NHT (Japan), The Guardian (UK), Ha’aretz (Israel), and other publications.

Julie Holland, M.D.

JULIE HOLLAND, MD, is a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and was an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine from 1995 to 2012. She is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania, Temple University School of Medicine and completed her psychiatric residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.


She is the editor of two non-profit books which help to fund clinical research: Ecstasy: The Complete Guide,A Comprehensive Look at the Risks and Benefits of MDMA and The Pot Book: A Complete Guide to Cannabis. She is the author of Weekends at Bellevue: Nine Years on the Night Shift at the Psych ER (Bantam/Random House, 2010) and Moody Bitches: The Truth About The Drugs You're Taking, the Sleep You're Missing, the Sex You're Not Having, and What's Really Making You Crazy (Penguin Press, 2015.)


Her most recent book, Good Chemistry: The Science of Connection, From Soul to Psychedelics was published in June 2020.


Dr. Holland runs a private practice in Manhattan and is the medical monitor for several clinical research studies on treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, one using MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, and another examining the effects of various strains of cannabis.

James Vasile, Esq.

JAMES VASILE, ESQ is a partner at
Open Tech Strategies, a consultancy that advises organizations and businesses as they navigate the open-source world.


He is a recognized expert on free and open source software and has long challenged the structural, security and privacy barriers that hinder free communication between people.


In addition to his work with OTS, James was the founding Director of the Open Internet Tools Project. Previously, James was a Senior Fellow at the Software Freedom Law Center, where he advised and supported a wide range of free software efforts.
