Horizons New York Is Postponed Until Spring 2024

To our esteemed community,

After spending the last few days reviewing our plans and data, consulting with advisors, and reflecting deeply...

We have made the decision to postpone the 16th Horizons New York conference until spring 2024.

Please accept my sincere apologies for this disappointment, and any reshuffling of your calendar and travel plans that this creates.

Our second
Horizons Northwest conference is on December 1-3, 2023 at the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon will proceed as planned.

First, a moment of gratitude and humility for our speakers, allies, and community.

Since its inception in 2007, Horizons has always been a community-focused endeavor. The experiences we have been able to create over the last sixteen years stand on the contributions of dozens of community allies doing noble work throughout this field, the hundreds of speakers who have generously graced our stage, and the thousands of attendees who have trusted us with their time and attention.

We know the decision to postpone the conference is disappointing, particularly for those who have invested their time, effort, and resources into our October plans. Please accept our humble apologies. However, this choice has been made from a deep place of respect and consideration. We hope our long-term reputation and a stellar New York conference in the spring will shine through the clouds of this surprising moment.

Why is this happening?

It is important to us that we uphold the highest standards of quality and integrity, and honor the sixteen years of trust that the community has placed in this project. After taking stock of where we are right now, we feel that we are not in a position to deliver the conference that the community expects from Horizons.

So, the most responsible thing to do is to take a deep breath, and ask for the time we need to deliver excellence, rather than attempt to push through with uncertain outcomes. While there are a variety of factors that have led to this moment, one of the underlying causes is that our team had a very late start on Horizons this year. We have simply run into the limits of attempting to do a year’s worth of work in three months. We are still sitting with this moment and its lessons, but feel confident that this is the best decision.
